Seven large US-listed businesses offer very different ways to research the cloud-computing market in 2026: Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Oracle, IBM, Salesforce and Snowflake. A shareholding in any of them is ownership of the whole company, not a direct claim on a particular cloud service. Their markets, operating margins, capital requirements and reporting definitions differ too much for a reliable universal ranking. An investor can nevertheless compare them systematically, beginning with audited financial statements rather than promotional statements about artificial intelligence.

This article is independent general financial education, not a personal investment recommendation or an instruction to buy these securities. Share prices, currency rates, forecasts and valuations can move rapidly. The figures cited below are dated historical disclosures, mainly fiscal 2025 or fiscal 2026; they are not live prices or predicted returns. A UK investor must also consider exchange-rate exposure, charges, taxes, diversification and suitability. A company growing its cloud revenue quickly can still be an expensive or risky investment.

Start with the seven underlying investment exposures

Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet operate large infrastructure businesses alongside other activities. Oracle combines cloud infrastructure with enterprise applications and a substantial database installed base. IBM offers hybrid-cloud software, infrastructure and consulting. Salesforce supplies business applications and workflow products, whilst Snowflake sells a data-platform service whose consumption patterns can change as customers adjust workloads. These categories overlap but are not financially identical. Define what type of cloud exposure is wanted before comparing corporate revenue growth.

A research worksheet should contain the company, financial reporting period, actual disclosed segment, source URL, capital spending, margins, free cash flow, debt and valuation date. Do not combine revenue from one company's product category with another company's entire operating segment and label them equivalent. Where a figure is unavailable, leave it blank and document the limitation. The company with the fastest cloud percentage growth is not necessarily the one offering the most attractive risk-adjusted investment at today's price.

Microsoft: a broad enterprise platform with sizeable infrastructure investment

Microsoft's fiscal 2026 annual report reports Microsoft Cloud revenue of $214.4 billion, up 27% year on year, and Azure and other cloud services revenue growth of 41%. The Microsoft Cloud measure includes Microsoft 365 commercial cloud, Azure, certain LinkedIn activities and Dynamics 365; it should never be presented as Azure revenue alone. That broad mix can provide opportunities across office software, identity, security, databases and compute, but makes it harder to isolate a pure infrastructure investment thesis.

Review Intelligent Cloud operating income and the underlying cost of revenue alongside the headline growth. Microsoft reports substantial investment in AI infrastructure and notes that its cloud gross margin is influenced by these costs and its changing sales mix. Long-standing enterprise customer relationships may support recurring contracts, but competition, contract discounts and depreciation still matter. The key question is whether future cash generation and margins support the current equity valuation, not merely whether Azure demand rises.

Amazon: a profitable AWS segment inside a wider retail and advertising group

Amazon's 2025 Form 10-K reports AWS net sales of $128.725 billion and AWS operating income of $45.606 billion. Those are segment disclosures for 2025, not Amazon's total revenues or a prediction for 2026. A shareholder also participates in retail, fulfilment, marketplace and advertising operations, whose economics and exposure to consumer spending differ from infrastructure services.

Evaluate AWS margins and capital expenditure, then consider how much of the group's cash flow is reinvested elsewhere. The benefits of extensive infrastructure scale may be offset by costs of new data centres, processors, networking and electricity. Competition could also influence prices or customer workloads. Because Amazon supplies several very different businesses, a single cloud growth figure cannot explain the valuation of the entire company.

Alphabet: Google Cloud growth alongside an advertising-dependent parent

Alphabet's 2025 Form 10-K reports Google Cloud revenue of $58.705 billion compared with $43.229 billion in 2024. These are dated segment numbers, covering cloud infrastructure and related enterprise services, rather than an independent valuation of Google Cloud. The parent company also carries substantial search, advertising, video and other businesses with different growth, profitability and regulatory risks.

Investors need to separate two questions: how well Google Cloud is performing as an enterprise supplier, and how the broader Alphabet company will fare as AI changes consumer search and advertising. Strong cloud growth might not dominate the group's earnings if other divisions change materially. Capital-intensive AI infrastructure also affects the total investment case. Review the consolidated financial statements, cash-flow statement and segment margins instead of projecting last year's segment growth indefinitely.

Oracle: infrastructure acceleration with a particular cash-flow question

Oracle's fiscal 2026 Form 10-K separates cloud infrastructure revenue of about $18.1 billion from cloud applications revenue of about $15.9 billion. Its 10 June 2026 results release gives total cloud revenue of $34.0 billion, up 39% in reported dollars, and cloud infrastructure growth of 77%. The dates and revenue categories should remain attached to those figures. Backlog and remaining performance obligations are not equivalent to cash already received.

Oracle's opportunity includes extending established database relationships into new infrastructure and AI contracts. The catch is that long-term capacity commitments require expensive equipment and facilities before the associated customer revenue and cash flows are fully realised. The annual results disclose significant cash outlays associated with expansion. Examine financing terms, capital expenditure commitments, customer concentration and the timing of cash conversion. A fast-growing infrastructure business can carry a materially different balance-sheet risk from a more mature subscription business.

IBM: hybrid-cloud software and consulting rather than pure hyperscale compute

IBM's business combines software, consulting and infrastructure, including the Red Hat ecosystem. Hybrid cloud means organisations can run workloads across their own systems and external providers; it is not a separate, universally standardised accounting segment whose revenue can simply be compared with AWS. IBM's investor reports at IBM Investor Relations are the proper place to check the current segment definitions and financial results.

Evaluate the contribution of software, consulting and infrastructure individually. Consulting can be sensitive to corporate spending and project schedules, while software may offer a different revenue and margin profile. Examine acquired businesses, debt, free cash flow and the balance between growth investments and shareholder distributions. An investor attracted to enterprise stability may find this mix different from a pure high-growth cloud infrastructure proposition, but that distinction is not evidence of lower future share-price volatility.

Salesforce and Snowflake: business application subscriptions versus data consumption

Salesforce sells enterprise customer-management and workflow applications, with commercial performance driven by renewals, customer expansion, pricing and the adoption of new products. Its official financial reports allow readers to check revenue and cash generation. The investment question is whether recurring customer value, operating discipline and new AI features translate into sustainable earnings. A demonstration of an intelligent agent is not evidence of a profitable customer deployment.

Snowflake operates a cloud data platform, for which customer consumption and workload optimisation can matter alongside contracts. The company's investor reports should be used to inspect product revenue, customer measures under Snowflake's own definitions, compensation expenses and profitability. Usage can rise as customers do more analytical work, but also change as they optimise workloads or choose competing services. These companies illustrate different forms of cloud exposure; comparing their sales growth directly with infrastructure segments omits material economic differences.

Compare valuation, capital intensity and portfolio risk before deciding

For all seven, distinguish accounting earnings from cash flow, and historical financial performance from market valuation. Use consistent valuation dates and units when calculating enterprise-value or price-related metrics. Some measures are distorted by large investment programmes or share-based compensation, and no single ratio captures every risk. A high-growth company can disappoint investors when expectations were already too optimistic, while slower growth does not automatically make a share unattractive.

UK shareholders in US-listed securities also face sterling-dollar currency movements, transaction costs and the risk that several technology holdings are exposed to the same economic drivers. Owning seven cloud-related shares may still be concentrated rather than genuinely diversified. Consider whether a broader fund is appropriate for the investor's objectives and circumstances. This article should not replace regulated advice where an individual's suitability or financial position requires it.

To conduct a careful comparison, record a falsifiable reason for researching each business: for Microsoft, whether margins justify AI investment; for Amazon, whether AWS profit growth supports the consolidated valuation; for Alphabet, whether cloud can diversify the parent's economics; for Oracle, whether large commitments become sustainable cash flow; for IBM, whether hybrid-cloud strategy supports earnings; for Salesforce, whether software subscriptions and AI offerings retain customer value; and for Snowflake, whether usage growth produces durable shareholder economics. Revisit these questions after the next actual filings rather than turning the seven names into a permanent ranking.

Which cloud exposure is a shareholder actually buying?

Reported cloud measures are different in scope. The useful choice is between the breadth of Microsoft's combined cloud line and the more explicitly split infrastructure and application lines in Oracle's filings, not a fictitious like-for-like stock ranking.

Interpretation: The two published cloud totals are not the same accounting unit, and neither is a current share value. They can guide different research questions but cannot by themselves identify a superior investment. Independent source A: Microsoft FY2026 annual report, global corporate revenue, year ended 30 June 2026; Microsoft Cloud explicitly includes multiple services. Independent source B: Oracle FY2026 Form 10-K and 10 June 2026 earnings release, year ended 31 May 2026, separate cloud infrastructure and applications; no causal comparison of future shareholder returns follows from these historical figures.

Frequently asked questions

Are these seven cloud stocks guaranteed to grow?

No. Revenue growth and cloud demand do not guarantee returns, and share prices can fall sharply.

Is Microsoft Cloud revenue identical to Azure revenue?

No. Microsoft's reported cloud measure includes several services beyond Azure alone.

Does AWS account for all Amazon revenue?

No. AWS is a separately disclosed segment within Amazon's wider retail, advertising and other activities.

Why does cloud capital expenditure matter?

Building infrastructure requires substantial cash and can reduce free cash flow before expected customer returns arrive.

Should investors use this article as a buy list?

No. Use dated primary financial statements, consider valuation and diversification, and obtain suitable professional advice where necessary.
